Lackawanna Heritage Valley (LHV) will host a Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the new Nay Aug Avenue Natural Play Area in the Green Ridge section of Scranton. The play area was built primarily with materials found in nature, and Family Fun Day will include a variety of special activities in keeping with the park’s natural theme, including:
• Story Time on the Lily Pad Stage with children’s author Jeannine Luby
• Bike Safety on the Tike Bike Trail with experts from Cedar Bike & Paddle
• Musical Entertainment
• Make-And-Take Crafts
• And More!
In addition to Family Fun Day activities, children are encouraged to explore the play area, which is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. Designed to help children develop a stewardship with nature, they’ll discover a host of features to inspire creative outdoor play. Children can scale the wooden Snake Climb, run up Turtle Hill, explore a simulated Beaver Dam, share the tire swing, enjoy a wheelchair accessible glider, or create an imaginary expedition from the new Fishing Shack!
Not to be confused with Nay Aug Park in East Scranton, the Nay Aug Avenue Natural Play Area is located in the Green Ridge section of Scranton (between Green Ridge and East Market Streets, near the Green Ridge Shopping Center). There is no admission fee to attend Family Fun Day, however donations to help maintain the play area and the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail will gladly be accepted.
