Seven Tubs Bear Creek, Pennsylvania
I was asked to help a Girl Scout Troop from Mountain Top with a short hike somewhere in the area. We decided on the Seven Tubs Nature Area off Route 115 in Bear Creek. It's an old favorite. It's a hot afternoon in June and the Tubs is a great area to be when it's really hot. It's always 10 degrees cooler. A short hike from the parking lot to the beginning of the trail starts on the bridge high over the first set of waterfalls and "tubs". From there you can take the trail that goes up or walk below the bridge to the stream and 4-5 other tubs of water. We decided to take the lower trail. There's a natural "bridge" that you can walk across when the water is low. Keep going down the trail we come up on additional tubs of water and waterfalls that feed into each other. We keep going for a while until the trail turns into woods and away from the water. The terrain has changed greatly here since the last time I was here. I'm contributing that to flooding we had last year, which I'm sure effected this area greatly. Next time we will do the upper trail.
